Hey folks! Transparency Disclosure- Some of the links in this article are affiliate links. That means I'll receive a modest committee if you decide to click on it and purchase something. Don't worry, it doesn't cost you anything extra!

Our 31st-calendar month blogging was spectacular and right in line with the terminal two months. Take you ever felt like you were on the cusp of something, just ready to quantum? That's where I feel we are with Partners in Burn down. I actually remember that if I go on writing, improving, and growing, we will see epic growth in the near future.

And then, let'due south see how we improved during our 31st calendar month – and find out why I think we're ready for a breakthrough!

31st Month Update

Readership

Our readership during our 31st calendar month definitely improved. We went from 2800 to 33000 to now over 35000 users! And, we're so shut to breaking 5000 pageviews! We're definitely killing it.

The best part is that nosotros can see the growth right in front of us. The last week of the month was the best yet – with over grand users coming in just that week. And about of these were from SEO changes rather than social media (not that social media isn't important – information technology'due south just not as consistent).

"31st month"

Nosotros still had six days this month with less than 100 users, merely the lows this period were slightly higher than last month, which is a win. Our peaks were higher also, and a bit more consequent.

I don't actually fifty-fifty know why nosotros saw such a huge spike this period. That was around the time I published "DIY Bath Remodel," and that post did see a ton of social shares (considering information technology'due south so adept – read it if you haven't nevertheless!). Still, it'due south also effectually the same fourth dimension that I updated "How to Avert Being Taken Reward of," and I have noticed a slight increase in users to that post too. That just goes to show that you can't put all of your eggs in i basket. Getting views from a multifariousness of sources is a big boost to web log growth.

Traffic Drivers

Organic Search

Our viewership from organic traffic was pretty consistent this month – with virtually 1800 users finding united states through search. This is basically the same equally last month, just it wasn't every bit consistent. We had a few days with quite low search numbers (luckily, social media was able to fill in the gaps!) but and so improved again towards the cease of the calendar month, with about 80 users coming to united states per day.

Our top page from organic search remains "How to be Twitch Chapter in 30 Days", and I connected to gyre with that theme. I wrote a super SEO-friendly mail service on " How Twitch Affiliates Make Coin," which is a perfect cross between gaming and finance. Gaming can exist a valid side hustle, folks!

In fact, I even decided to try my paw at gaming as a side hustle. I've dabbled in it before, of course, simply I never took it seriously. I decided to kickoff doing that now, and then nosotros shall see how it goes.

Although the majority of my organic search traffic is going to the Twitch chapter mail service, information technology's not the but post that's getting attention.

Why Buffy is the Greatest Show Ever continues to exist at the number two slot, I Regret Getting Pets is number three, and Why is Animal Crossing so Addicting comes in at number 4.

Tin y'all gauge what these posts have in common?

They aren't in the "Your Money or Your Life" niche. This is solid evidence of the fact that it's easier to rank for posts that don't autumn under that umbrella. However, I know that niches are important (though I detest the idea and would rather write about anything), so my goal is to meliorate my rankings on those posts. And since I've done the all-time I could in regards to on-page SEO, the side by side step is to ameliorate my Eat rating.

EAT

Consume is basically Google's mode of determining whether a website is legitimate enough to rank high – especially in those "Your Coin or Your Life" searches. Information technology stands for Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness.  Google wants to prove users the nigh relevant sites with the best information – and they utilise a complex algorithm based on those three things to make that determination.

So the real question is – how do y'all improve your Eat ranking? No one really knows Google'south verbal algorithm, but nosotros practise know what they are looking for.  I'1000 no expert, merely I'm trying my best to figure these things out. Here's what I've come up with then far.

Expertise

Expertise is all about your content. Write legitimate content that answers every question a user might take about a given topic. I've updated my Twitch affiliate mail service a ton, calculation brusque headers which answer boosted questions. Then, I write an even more in-depth mail about that header and link to it. That'southward actually how I decided to write a postal service on How Twitch Affiliates Make Coin. I realized that's i of the principal questions that was asked in conjunction with beingness a Twitch Affiliate – so I added a subheading addressing information technology in the main post, then wrote an entire in-depth post about it and linked them together. This shows Google that I'm addressing all the questions that their users might want to know.

Potency

Authority is all about your domain authority, and here's where I'm still lacking (and where I have large plans for improvement!).

How does Google measure say-so? Backlinks, backlinks, and backlinks! From what I understand (and Google is circuitous, then I may be style off), it besides uses your social metrics (media shares) and searches for times you are mentioned without a link. Nigh of this is way too complex for me to understand – how does Google know they are talking about me when I'yard not even linked? Scary really. Just I digress.

31st month blogging
Sharing is caring! Pin this!

I know that one of the reasons why some of my finance posts aren't ranking college is because of my Domain Dominance. At the offset of the month, it was at a paltry 24. With the help of the blogger group that I'k in, The Money Mix Insiders, I got it upwardly to 27, and they've helped me do a ton of stuff this month that should skyrocket my DA. Unfortunately, Google doesn't piece of work instantaneously, then I probably have to look a few more weeks to encounter the full results, but I'm sure information technology will be ballsy. Everyone who started in the group earlier me has a DA of fifty+.

If you really want to bring your blog to the side by side level – check them out. It is a bit pricey, only they are still offering a free three-month trial (that's how I got in!). I am confident that you will run across the value in information technology after your first month or so, but if you don't, you can quit.

Trustworthiness

Google also wants to make sure the pages it features are trustworthy. The Insiders helped me make a few changes to my overall site that would improve trustworthiness. Helping me better my site speed was a big one, but they besides pointed out a few small-scale changes I could make which would help. As well, linking to reputable sources (and getting them to link to yous – which is much harder!) helps.

Some of the other components of trustworthiness are a little harder as a web log. I don't have a yelp page or anywhere that customers can leave reviews. I don't do any transactions, so I don't have any information on returns, and I don't take terms and conditions in regards to the products and services I offer (considering I don't really offer any).

I'm not entirely sure how Google measures trustworthiness outside of those few things – it'due south a nut I'chiliad still working on cracking. SEO is tough!

For more information on EAT, head over to MOZ. They have basically everything you ever wanted to know about it.

Straight Hits

We saw another huge increase in the number of users coming to us direct this month. Over 1200 users came to Partners in Fire via direct hitting!

A big portion of that is you wonderful subscribers. We got 3 new subscribers this month (crawly!) and go along to pump out content that yous love (hopefully). I think information technology's fourth dimension to upgrade my email list so I can have more than control over the content you guys get. You lot deserve it!

But I don't recall the straight hits are only from subscribers. I'm starting to think that some of my users from Pinterest are being recorded as direct hits because, co-ordinate to Pinterest analytics, I had 344 link clicks, but co-ordinate to Google, I only had 16 users from the platform. Something doesn't add upwards there.

Someone told me that Google counts whatsoever user of unknown origin (that means Google isn't exactly sure where they came from) equally a directly hit. I think that's happening a fleck with Pinterest users and even some referrals. But hey, traffic is traffic, and I'll take information technology!

Social Media

Speaking of social platforms – according to Google, nosotros had a huge decrease in users from social media. We dropped from 542 last month to just over 400 this month. But it's easy to see where virtually of that decrease came from.

Pinterest

As I said above, Google merely recorded 16 users from Pinterest this calendar month. That's way off from the 344 link clicks that Pinterest recorded. It's difficult to say exactly what is going on here, but I think it's fair to say that I'm getting at least some users from the platform, regardless of where they are being recorded. I'll have to be certain to watch my Pinterest analytics in improver to my Google analytics in the future.

Twitter

I'm however working my Twitter magic. Over 240 users visited us from the platform this month, which is a slight increase from last calendar month.

In that location are a few reasons why I'm able to bulldoze so much traffic from Twitter. First, I endeavour to write engaging tweets that make the reader want to click my link. I learned a lot about this in Make information technology Stick- a mini-e-volume on Twitter engagement. It's mostly nearly in-platform appointment, only I was able to make the ideas work for link clicks equally well – and was able to finally get over 5000 followers on the platform. Huge wins!

Another reason why I'm able to pull some traffic from Twitter is the Insiders grouping I mentioned before. They have absolutely helped with some technical aspects of the blog, but nosotros as well aid each other as much as possible, and i big way to help is to share each other's posts. That aspect gets my blog mail in front of some new audiences and gets me more clicks.

Facebook

I failed at Facebook this period. We only had 6 users from the platform, a huge subtract. Simply, to exist fair, I didn't post much of my ain content on the platform this calendar month. I did share a ton of stuff from my blogger group on Facebook (and Twitter), but that's non going to get clicks to my own site.

I desire to do amend, only I too have many other things I'm working on, and then Facebook isn't much of a priority for me. That's okay – you don't need to focus on everything all at i time. Sometimes it's better to focus on the things that volition bulldoze the most traffic.

Content

Partners in Burn down published a ton of relevant and engaging content this month. With all the (extremely valid) protests surrounding Blackness Lives Matter, we realized that it was fourth dimension to write about racial justice – one of the only social issues that we haven't covered yet. Simply, instead of writing from my perspective, which doesn't really matter so much, I wrote nigh lifting anybody upand shared a ton of crawly content created past BIPOC.

In addition to that, I wrote a post bashing the finance customs'due south blind spot when information technology comes to political policies. I'chiliad a bit tired of all the big gurus pretending that there isn't a political aspect to personal finance. I get that it'due south tough to write about, only I think we do our reader'south a disservice in pretending that politics don't affect every aspect of our fiscal lives. Some people literally tin't escape poverty because political policies are in place that holds them back. As finance writers, nosotros need to acknowledge that and practise our parts to set it.

Keeping in line with the political theme, I wrote a scathing review of the nine-to-five workweek, and I also pondered whether financial security is really worth the toll nosotros pay for information technology.

But we weren't all serious this month! We likewise wrote about how to make coin as a Twitch streamer, to stay in line with our content on gaming, published a more finance-related mail (we are a finance web log, I guess) nigh saving money, and wrote an epic post nearly remodeling the upstairs bathroom. Hint – information technology was not fun.

How Are Nosotros Going to Improve Our Readership

It seems that improving our SEO game is going to have the largest bear upon on our readership, so my biggest goal is to brand that happen. I take a list of posts that are currently ranking on pages 3-4 but could peradventure rank higher with some pocket-size tweaks. My goal is to update at least one of them a week.

Also, every bit I said above, improving my Swallow score should assist a lot. I'one thousand going to piece of work hard on that stuff this month also, with the help of the Money Mix Insiders.

A final affair I'm going to practise to meliorate my readership is continue working on my social media presence. For me, I remember this ways focusing on Twitter and Pinterest. I do want to have a presence on all the platforms, but it's as well difficult to keep up. I'll continue doing what I'chiliad doing on Facebook and Instagram (which is a tiny bit more than aught), just my main focus needs to be the platforms that are getting results.

It took me 2.5 years to reach over 5k followers on Twitter, merely I call up if I get more than active on the platform, reaching 10K will exist much faster. My goal is to get there by this time adjacent year, so we shall see! An active Twitter community is also super beneficial for my other big venture – Twitch streaming.

Monetization

We haven't written about monetization much because we didn't really have anything to report. Only it's different this month! I made a whopping twenty dollars during my 31st calendar month! That may not seem like much, only remember, I fabricated $16 total my unabridged start year. And then 20 in ane calendar month is freaking awesome!

All of that money came from ad networks. Nearly of information technology came from Interactive Offers, the company that offers embedded ads. I've been doing pretty well with them lately – I didn't fifty-fifty detect that I'd been averaging about ten bucks a month there! That'south enough to cover my hosting! Woot!

The rest came from Shemedia – those are the banner ads at the bottom. I just started with them about a calendar week ago, but if my traffic continues to increase, I should be able to brand x-twenty bucks a month with them too. How cool would that be?

Continued Growth

Partners in Fire is standing to learn and grow. Blogging is a long-haul game, in that location'southward e'er something new to learn, and I'thou dedicated to learning it! I've heard that July sucks for traffic in full general, so I'g excited to see if nosotros tin at to the lowest degree remain consistent next month. We'll detect out!
